Selection Guide
The information below is designed to provide an explanation of the various products that are typically combined to create a complete/finished drapery rod.

An Important Note about Drapery Hardware Classification: Drapery Hardware is classified by each Collection's Rod or Pole Diameter. For example, if you are looking at the Kirsch 1 3/8" Designer Metals Collection, that means that all of the items in that Collection are based upon, named for, and 'fit' a 1 3/8" diameter pole.

- 1. Pole: Designer Metals 1 3/8" Poles are avilable in two versions; telescopic and fixed-width. Telescopic Poles are available in 36"-66" (with 3 included Standard Brackets), 66"-120" (with 4 included Standard Brackets), and 120"-180" (with 6 included Standard Brackets). Fixed-width poles are available in 4-foot (48"), 6-foot (72") amd 7-foot, 9-inch (93") Lengths. Choose a Pole that is the same length or longer than you need. All Designer Metals Poles come with Finial Plugs, which are placed into each end of the pole and allow a finial to be screwed-in. Designer Metals fixed-width Poles can be cut-down with a hacksaw. If you need a longer pole, Designer Metals fixed-width Poles can be joined with a Splice. A Bracket must be placed directly under each point where Poles are joined.
- 2. Finials: Designer Metals 1 3/8" Finials are sold in Pairs and are 'screwed-in' to the end of the rod.

3. Brackets: The Designer Metals 1 3/8" Collection offers twelve Bracket options. The number and style of Brackets you need depends on your application. Generally, three Brackets are sufficient for each telescopic and fixed-width pole. 'Return', as noted below, is the distance between the center-line of a pole seated in a bracket and the wall:
- a. Decorative Bracket, O Bracket, and and Standard Bracket: The 'standard' Return Brackets, suitable for most applications.
- b. Double Bracket: For a two-pole solution, one in front of the other. The Double Bracket has a 3 1/2" Return for the Back Pole, and a 6 1/2" Return for the Front Pole.
- c. Double Bracket: For a two-pole solution, one in front of the other. The Double Bracket has adjustable Returns: 3" to 4" for the Back Pole, and a 6" to 7" for the Front Pole.
- d. Single and Double Ceiling Brackets: For those who prefer to (or must) install their drapery hardware from the ceiling.
- e. Single and Double Bypass Brackets: For longer poles where additional support is needed, but in a manner that does not impede drapery ring travel. The Bypass Bracket, along with the C-Ring, allows you to place a bracket anywhere along a pole's width. This bracket is typically used with longer one-way panels, or on very wide windows where a number of Poles have been joined with splices.
- e. 3" and 6" French Returns: For a clean look that causes the rod to return to the wall, French Returns serve as brackets and eliminate the need for Finials. Should a bracket be needed in the center, select a corresponding 3" or 6" O Bracket.
- 4. Rings: Designer Metals offers 'Standard Rings', 'Transitional Rings', and 'C-Rings'. The choice between Standard and Transitional Rings is simply one of personal design preference. C-Rings are Bypass Rings, which "pass-over" one of the available Designer Metals Bypass Brackets. The combination of C-Rings and Bypass Brackets allows you to place a bracket in a position drapery travel would prevent with standard rings and brackets.
- 5. Speciality Products: Designer Metals offers Swivel Sockets and Batons. Swivel Sockets join Designer Metals Poles for bay window or corner window installations. The Swivel Socket is fully adjustable and rotates from a flat position to ninety degrees. Note that a Bracket must be placed under the Pole on each side of a Swivel Socket. The Designer Metals Baton, if desired, is 36" Long and is topped with a C-Ring.
